Inverurie has a number of litter blackspots. These are areas which trap litter and which are not being cleared by Aberdeenshire Council, says the chairman of a local environmental charity. “These horror blackspots are such a disgusting mess that our litter volunteers would not attempt to clear them,” said Ranald Allan, chairman of Inverurie Environmental Improvement Group (IEI), organisers of a Clean-up Inverurie event last Sunday. “We have one big question after our weekend litter collection event – why is our town so dirty?” asked the IEI chairman.

Environment charity needs more volunteers

Environment charity wants more volunteers – can you help?

A summer floral display of 180 containers and using 3800 plants is just one of a number of initiatives planned for this summer by a local environment charity.  The floral display is organised by Inverurie Environmental Improvement Group (IEI) and sponsored by businesses in the town.

The hanging baskets are just one of a number of initiatives planned for this summer by the environment volunteers.  The first event is a Clean-up Inverurie litter collection event on Sunday, April 13.   Volunteers should meet in the carpark behind Martin Singer Travel at 1.30pm.  Everyone is welcome.  Please take your own protective gloves – all other equipment will be supplied.

Winners of the best garden 2007

Inverurie’s best garden showcase

The Inverurie Best Garden 2007 Awards will be presented on Saturday (Sept 1) afternoon in Inverurie Town Hall at the annual Flower Show.

This year’s overall winners of the competition are Mr and Mrs B. Middleton, 3 Cunninghill Avenue, Inverurie. The couple’s floral display won the Large Front Garden section of the competition and they also won the Best Container section.

“The standard of entries was extremely high, as always, which made judging hard,” said Ranald Allan, chairman of the competition organisers, Inverurie Environmental Improvement Group. “The number of entries was down on previous years, which is a measure of the disappointing summer weather,” said Ranald.
